For my restocking do the following fish sound good for a 50 gallon planted tank:

7 serpaes
4-5 Platys
2-4 Kuhli and/or Black Kuhli loaches
1-2 Cories
1 BN pl*c
7 Zebra Danios or some kind of small schooling fish
1 Siamese Algae Eater(optional)

Any suggestions to this or additions would be appreciated.

Here is my opinion:

Serpaes are know as fin-nippers, so, if you can, try and steer away. Go for another type of tetra: cardinal, lemon, black neon (my favorite), etc. Also, maybe you could just have one large school, instead of two small ones. Large schools look amazing in a tank IMO.

Cories are schooling, so at least 6 for your tank. You seem to have a lot of bottom dwellers, so I am taking off the kuhlis (unless you really want them). They also tend to hide A LOT so you might not see them a lot.

How about somethin' like this
12-14 tetras
5 platies
1 BN plec
6 cories
some type of other fish, like a pearl/moonlight gourami or cichlid (like an angelfish, a couple of rams etc.)

In that case, I'd add at least two more kuhlis, and three more of the tetras. Then, get the BN, a shoal of ten cories, and either one or two pairs of a peaceful cichlid, or a large school of barbs, like gold barbs.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

It may be pushing the limit, but I think as long as you keep up with maint, and go with a smaller cory, you will be okay. A school of gold barbs would be great. I loveee them, they are so active, but friendly at the same time. If your serpaes tend to be a little timid, you may want to consider these guys because they will bring them out of hiding a lot of times. This is what happend with my black phantom tetras, the tank looks so much fuller now. Plus, they've got great colors and personality. As soon as I walk in the room, all 6 of mine are at the front of the tank beggin' for food. They seem to stay watching me whenever I'm in there. Just make sure you keep them in a school.

Some smaller cichlids, like Rams or something, may do nicely also. I think it really depends on what you're looking for or interested in.

what else besides some kind of cichlid could go in as a pair to act as center piece fish ?

Id love to get cichlid but lfs just dont carry smaller types, but ill probly end up making the drive out of town to get fish since there is no competition locally for fish prices so that equal spending more $$$$$$$$$$.
