![]() | Restocking a 42G Hex |
Mitchee![]() Enthusiast Posts: 176 Kudos: 75 Votes: 99 Registered: 12-Dec-2005 ![]() ![]() | Hi eveyone I'm looking at restocking my 42G Hex tank. My plants will have to be plastic because of very low light, and I'm also looking at obtaining some small, white, pebbly type gravel or failing that, a small, smooth, rounded riverbed gravel. I'd like to have large to medium sized, non-agressive, slow moving, colourful fish with perhaps a school of smaller fish. Your suggestions would be most welcome and appreciated. Thanks much! ![]() *Mitch* |

It's a small, pebbly natrual colored gravel that looks great in any aquarium. Also, darker gravel will show off the colors of the fish better. As for fish, it will ultimately depend on your tastes and compatibility. For the larger, slower moving fish maybe you'd like to get some Dwarf Gouramis of some sort. They'll be 3-4" or so, and will attract the eye. Smaller, schooling fish.. there are several choices out there. Cardinal tetras, glolite tetras, some green fire tetras, chocu's blue.. there are so many choices! What colours were you hoping for? What type of filter and heater are you planning on running? |

I used to have this tank set up with livebearers and a few danios and tetras. However, last week all my livebearers started to die from an unknown parasite and I had to move the surviving fish to newly purchased tanks. My main tank has been completely torn down and disinfected. That's the reason why I'm starting over again. THe surviving livebearers, tetras and danios will not be returning to the main tank. I like the idea of dwarf gouramies, blue and red and maybe one angelfish (eventhough they're not colourful) and a pair of bolivian rams. I'm limited as to the choice of tetras I can get here. I did see some at a dept. store that are pale blue and pink. Not sure if these are coloured naturally or are the "painted" fish that I refuse to get. I'm also interested in albino cories. THe colours I'd like to get in this tank are yellow, orange, blue and red. As bright and vibrant as possible because of my lighting issue. I love the sunburst platies however I don't think they'll do well with the gouramies and angelfish. *Mitch* |
