I feel soooo bad. I bought 4 guppies today and two of them have already died. The one had what I think was the guppy disease but the other seemed fine, just a fray in the tail. The other two fish have been acting funny. I acclimated them as suggested by people in this forum and they seemed fine for a few hours, but now they are just dropping. Could the drive from the fish store have messed with them (2 hours)? Was there anything I could have done to save them? I feel so awful and these are the first fish I have ever lost!

maybe your water is a different pH? and they couldn't cope with the change. is there any way you can take the bodies back to the shop and ask if they know what went wrong?

i have never heard of guppy disease?

i know it is depressing when fish die, especially when you have just brought them home. its more than likely it iwas a shop problem not a you problem.

hope the other two make it

GFG

Yeah just as Goldfishgeek said, take the fish back and ask. Also bring in a sample of your tank water for them to test. Good Luck

I am sorry to hear about your guppies. I have a couple questions, may sound stupid but I am just curious...

How long has your tank been up and running?
What is the temperature?
What size tank is it?

I would also suggest taking back the fish along with a sample of your tank water. The LFS will test the water for you.
If you have already tested your water, what are the parameters? (i.e. amonia level, ph level, nitrite, nitrate)

Good luck!

It was a 29 gallon, up and running for 8 weeks or so. Nitrite-0
Nitrate-0
Ammonio-0
Ph 7.5
They all ended up dying by the morning. All of the other fish are fine and show know signs of illness whatsoever. I really wish I knew what happened to them, but I guess I just wasn't meant to keep guppies

was the tank cycled? 0 nitrates is kind of odd, but still possible.

The tank had been cycled for a few weeks. I had done a water change a day before which probably explained the 0 nitrates...normally it is 5 or so.

That is probably because they are not shaking the nitrate chemicals for at least 30 seconds. This is a very important step, and if you don't do it, you will without a doubt get inaccurate results.

Watch them next time they test your water... See if they shake the bottle...
