I'm changing from gravel subsrtate to sand substrate, and I was wondering if a Bio-wheel current would make the sand cloud up or if it would be OK. I'm worried because I don't want a tank that has loads of cloudy sand in it.

Any replies would be good, thanks.

Good-quality sand won't cloud, IME - playsand certainly will, although I don't know if the Biowheel would make that last longer, but, in any case, who needs a 50 lb bag of sand for a 5 gallon tank? Just pick up 5 lbs of nice marine-grade fine sand at your LFS.

I don't think that the sand will cloud up.

My friend switched from playsand to pool filter sand. He says its the only way to go. No cloud-up whatsoever even with the geophagus digging around 24/7.

He has a 55g with a biowheel.
