I looked at them and assumed they would be green tiger barbs, no way. They look very similar to a checker barb, but much larger, gold in color with irridescent green sheen all over, and two small black dots or semi stripes, one at the tail one at the head. I have been searchin online for days and cant even find a picture of what is close to this fish. The guy at the fish store said they are very common, not at all rare. They are definely a barb, sporting the same body shape overall as a 5 stripe barb, and having the definitive "barbs" on each side of its mouth. I am considering purchasing a couple of these fish so would appreciate any info on them. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

Otherwise, I have no clue as to what it could be. Gold barbs are common, but I've never heard of the other fish.![]() |

They're not dyed at all and very pretty. Green tiger barbs are a dark color with a green sheen... I have no idea what the "green fire barb" might be... Well, random guess - Puntius semifasciolatus? ><> |

They are a very common species around here. Juveniles tend to be more green and the two spots are more distict. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

I will ask him next I am there. I may just bring home a couple anyway and see how they develop. He said they are local bred and he gets them in every second thursday from a local breeder and 1 time a month from his supplier. They do have the body shape of a gold barb though. Is it possible it could be a cross breed between a gold barb and say a 5 banded barb or something? Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

There really is a fish by that name, sort of pretty really. They are also, called Bloodfin tetras. See: http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/fw/characins/bloodfin.asp and: http://freshaquarium.about.com/library/profiles/blfw0077.htm They used to sell them at PetsMart under the name of green fire tetras. |

I am sorry I don't have a picture, but they look very much alike. |

Bloodfins have red fins and silvery bodys, I have seen plenty of those. These fish were ABSOLUTELY a barb of some kind. They couldnt possibly look any more Barb-y than they do. I decided not to buy them as both had bent spines. The lady who was working there yesterday did not know what else they were called. She said she has seen them for years always labelled and sold as Green Fire Barbs. She said they are not golds or rosy's, and has never seen another barb like them. She said they get to be about 3 inches, are shoaling rather than schooling, and are neither timid nor aggressive, sort of just peaceful. They are definetly Green. But not like a deep green, like a golden greenish hue all over, sorta sparkly, and have very large scales. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
