Shipping Fish - What to Consider? | |
Mez Ultimate Fish Guru Asian Hardfeather Enthusiast Posts: 3300 Votes: 162 Registered: 23-Feb-2001 | Ok, so i have ordered some bettas from indonesia...All i have to do now is pay the man and tell him the weather here is good enough to send them. Well. What exactly should i be looking for in the weaher? Obviously ice and thunderstorms should be avoided, but when shipping fish, what do you folks actually take into consideration? Im not sure if heat packs will be added to the package (im sure they will?) as they are coming from indonesia, a very nice warm place...and they are arriving in Manchester, England. A very grim, dark, wet, miserable place full of nutters and rain clouds.. Any advice on this? Cheers James |

Ones that can be wild caught? i think not. I know channoides themselves arent too common. Have you made a newbie mistake and presumed i meant common bettas? Even so, my male black copper hm came from thailand, because thats where the shops get them from, and i cut the middle person out. oh, and ive saved myself about a hundred quid, and will be making about 200 quid in a few months. Thankyou and goodnight. |

That being seid, you want to make sure that the time the fish is going to be in route is not longer that 36 hours. You want to make sure he knows how to package the fish, (I'm don't want to assume he is a wholesaler) styro foam box inside a cardboard boxed double bag with injected oxygen. It best to ship when the temps are mild 68 to 80 degrees F (Sorry we use F instead of C here in the states). the fish will be fine I ship and receave all the time. Just make sure you read his DOA policy. Some require photos of the fish as is when unpacked and a phone call with in 3 hours of receaving. One other thing if you have a job and need to go to work, have them shipped there, or to someone who can sign for them, and get them in a cool place. In my oppinion, I would wait till I knew what the weather was going to be over the next few days, and have the shipper ship them when it is going to be decent temp wize. I would not be concerned about the rain/thunder/lightning storms, as they won't have that much affect on the fish. Where as the temp will. As for the bettas, they are not my cup of tea. But, I do have a friend that has now bred 7 different species in the last year, and has that many more different species he is working on. I am thinking about starting with a couple of the mouth brooding species he is currently doing. And again, I am not very knowledgable about them, so don't ask me the names of those bettas he has, lol. As I don't know, lol. There is always a bigger fish... |
