Here is my current dilema...

I am in the "wrapping" up stages of starting my final tank (going to be a nice high tech, planted one) and looking for (1) species of fish that would be compatable with the following;

Emperor Tetras
Zebra Otocinclus
Dwarf Pleco (? on the species)
Various shrimp such as Amano, Cherry and Glass

I need something that will not have the school of Emperor Tetras outshadow (I was gunning for Licorice Gourami, but the Tetras would definately shadow them) in the tank.

I am not a Cichlid fan so I will definately rule out ANY Cichlid species (thing includes Angels and Discus) for this setup.

I am looking for something different with same pH params as the rest of the inhabitants (6.8-7.5) and temp params.

Kinda stuck and wish to see if anyone might have any idea.

Gary

I'd recommend an RTS for that tank. I don't think you'd have any problem between him and the other fish and he'd be a beautiful addition. Maybe an albino rainbow shark if you prefer the coloration or look of them...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

What about some type of rainbowfish? Dwarf if you want them to not stick out so much or some of the larger ones if you want them to be more apparent. I guess some types of gouramis would be great, but thats all your oppinion.

what about some cichlids

If your looking for something showy how about a paradise fish ? Saw some today and they don't get any more showy. Lovely color and and long flowy fins.

I 2nd the suggestion of the RTS. That'd be a nice addition and it'd be able to grow to it's full size, most likely.

I second the dwarf rainbowfish suggestion, preferrably praecox rainbows, very pretty!

Or congo tetras if you'd like something bigger

Not a cichlid fan? That's the craziest thing I've ever heard!

Firstly, thanks for all the replies. Yeah, never have been a Cichlid fan and never will be (though I think that Discus, Angels, Rams and Kribs are nice looking fish) IMO.

RTS would be nice, but what sort of destruction would he cause in a planted tank? I had 2 before (one RTS and Rainbow Shark) and they uprooted a lot of stuff and even arranged rocks for me.

Paradise Fish; interesting, definately a possibility. Though, like I stated, a shoal or school of Emperor Tetras would definately out shadow it.

I might go with the Rainbowfish idea. Though, I am going to rule out the Boesmani, they are on the UCN Redlist as endangered... Too many males taken and not enough left to continue bloodlines in the wild..

Will do some research into the Rainbowfish. Something larger than 4" would be nice.
