My friend decided to setup a fishtank, so we went to buy some gravels to start with. We went to my usual LFS and guess how much do they sell the gravels at?

[font color="#C00000"]$6.50AU per kg

I guess I feel fortunate now. I don't know exactly what that translates to in American dollars, but I haven't seen a jump of any kind in the price of gravel around here in a considerable amount of time...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

You might want to consider pea gravel from your local landscaping or DIY shop. Depending on the season most places have @least one type in stock (here in the states anyway ). I did notice a much, much wider selection of landscaping sand in spring, inclucing a very white one. Too bad they didnt' have it in stock when I was looking for it a few months earlier .

For next time, look around in various shops (even ones you normally wouldn't think of for fish stuff) you might be plesantly surprised...least your savings account should be .

^_^

find a different store.

my old lfs back in australia used to sell plain ol' brown gravel for 90c a kg.

of course, what kind of gravel are you looking at? the colored stuff is generally more expensive

I'd also agree with shopping around before buying. That goes with anything in life. You can almost always find a better price. That's also why I like play sand. Huge bag of sand for really little money.
