Hi, sorry for my newbie questions. I wish to know what is the difference between green and brown algae. I was told that brown algae are due to the lack of sunlight ? I have discovered that there is a layer of slime on the sides of my tank, is it algae ? I have tried to clean them off by using a sponge but that leaves my water cloudy after cleaning. Any better ways to clean them off. Thanks in advance for the advice.
ps: my tank is a 30 gallon tank with three 3" Ranchu and seven 1.5" cories.

is it a clear slimey stuff? if so it could be cyanobacteria (blue green algae... not really an algae though)

try checking your nitrate level and post it here, that will help a lot
