I have a 10g planted aquarium that currently houses two red dwarf gouramis and one otto. I was thinking about adding another otto and a couple of khuli loaches. Any thoughts??

mike77ca,

I don't know much about khuli loaches, but I for sure would say that getting more Otos (and that means more than one addition) is a good idea. They are not too happy being all alone. Do you have a food source for them?

yeah....I have brown algea in copious quantities. I also supplement with fresh veggies(zucchini and bits of bannana)which the gouramis love too, and the occasional algea tablet.

mike77ca,

Excellent - so I would for sure say you should get 3 Otos total.

Get the 3 ottos definitly. The thing about kuhlis, some may think other wise, but they grow to 4" and are quite active, and i personally don't think they belong in a 10. Instead, you could probably get maybe (?4?) corydoras hastatus (sorry if i've spelt it wrong - or the Salt and Pepper Cory) they are more middle fish, and only grow to 1".

Are the 2 Dwarf Gourami males?.

Yes, Oto's like to stay in a group & if they have Algae to eat, they'll be fine, but make sure to keep the water parameters stable.

Keep an eye on the gouramis though...I had two in a 10g once and one killed the other. I wouldn't put kuhlis in a 10 personally. I also wouldn't put cories in a 10...but that's just me. You may be able to get away with a group of the smaller cories.

I would add another otto. The thing with them, is that they need to have algae available all the time. Mine won't eat algae wafers or veggies. I may have picky ottos though. Two will be fine. I had 2 in my 10g for a long time. Give them lots of plants and they'll be happy.
