Sin gets that - in fact, that seems to be exactly the question I'm seeing: given a fish that obviously can't be stocked like a small or skinny fish, make me a guesstimate. What's the problem?

Sin: My take, treat 'em as a cross between a half-grown large schooling species, say Balas - ie more is better even if it means slight overstocking - and a half-grown large-bodied fish, say goldfish, so more space is better. I'd say you could get away with a little over a fish per ten gals if you were careful, and heading more towards the 15 per side would be safer, plus more schooling/group room. Just my take.

I saw cats being vacuumed on Funniest Animal Videos. Looked pretty strange. As being a professional cat groomer, I can't believe it is a very common thing.

Since I'm so busy running the #1 puffersite, I don't always have time to get to other sites as often as I'd like. I must have missed that post.

It comes from the SW Pacific: Austrailia, prefers high-end BW-SW, pH--hard alkaline 7.5-8.5, likes bright light/plenty of sun, eats live/frozen foods, needs a large tank, grows to 6", heavily decorated tank, wild-caught, difficult to keep.

BTW, some cats like to get vacuumed.

Well, the thread that i ran on them got over 70 views, and a grand total of only 2 responses - 1 from Shini, who (while appreciated) didn't have alot to share & one from Calla, who is my co-enquirer.... So I figured no one knew anything about them

Here's the thread if you wanna take a look:

Tetractenos Hamiltoni - aka Common Toadfish

*sigh* p.s. that is not Arothron hispidus, as I already said it's Tetractenos Hamiltoni

YAY!! Someone's finally grasping the concept! THANKYOU LM!!!

Pufferpunk, while I really do appreciate your imput (really, I do ) I don't think you're really reading this:

Pufferpunk - "there is no such fish"

if you'll read the post before you made that statement -

Callatya - "we are talking about a specific type of local puffer..."

And even if it wern't a real fish, that's not really the point of the question at hand

For those who are adament that this fish does not exist (), the species is Tetractenos Hamiltoni, aka Common Toadfish.
It is a local, native Australian species. It DOES live in groups and It IS found in waters ranging from almost-fresh Brackish through to full Marine.

...for those who still don't believe it's real, here's a pic

Ok, take a random species of Pufferish type fish, It's brackish, schooling, & grows to approximatley 6 inches.

What sort of potential stocking level am I looking at?

Thanx

The problem we are all having with this question is--there is no such fish, so how can we answer it? You can't answer a question about gallons/fish, unlesss the fish is only 1" long & thin. Otherwise we are talking about total mass of a larger fish, which is a completely different story. You could comfotably fit 10 neons in a 10g tank, but would you put a 10" oscar in there?

LOL, ok, we are talking about a specific type of local puffer that does school in the wild... or perhaps school is the wrong word, but it does live in groups of about 2-8.

geez, *pats Sin*

Hmmm, OK, well how about i re-phrase this.

Let's assume there is a fish. FORGET about the species & just go off this!

It has a puffer-like body type and diet
It is schooling
It grows to a maximum of 6 inches
It is Brackish

based on THAT information ONLY, approximatley how many gallons per fish would be required?

One to a tank unless they are dwarfs or South American puffers. Allow at least 2gal each for a dwarf. They all eat live/frozen seafood(bloodworms, tubifex, daphnia, plankton, krill) Don't feed brine shrimp unless you don't mind that they will probably eat any other shrimp put with them. Dwarfs need snails(pond)2-3X a week. Larger puffers need larger snails and alot more of them. If you get a larger puffer, you'll need to trim their teeth every few months.

Forget about species. That's why I said "Pufferish type fish". I just need to know what sort of stocking levels this body type/diet etc.... need.

There are no sachooling BW puffers. As a matter of fact, there is only 1 puffer I know of, that likes to be in groups--the South American puffer. A 6" active puffer belongs in 20-30g/fish. A more sedentary puffer of that size is ok in a 20g.
