Hi,
This is my first post and my first tank.
It has medium sized, smooth gravel and live plants.
I was thinking of stocking it with the following:

4-6 loaches or dwarf corys
2-4 Small size Gourami's
School of 6-8 smaller fish (suggestions?) would rainbowfish work?
A couple of angelfish

Would this be sufficient? Too much or too little?
If so add/remove which fish.
Any opinions on this setup.

Sounds like a nice tank

I keep loaches and cories-great fish-my personal preference is loaches though.

I recently got some dwarf neon rainbowfish (praecox). They don't get too large, have very good color, and school nicely. You could probably get a larger rainbowfish for that size tank if you wanted, or do a big school of a smaller species.

Were you interested in any particular gourami? Pearls and moonlights do well in pairs but I'm not sure about the smaller gouramis.

I've only kept single angels so I can't give you advice there.

Depending on what your final decisions are and space you have left have you thought about any kind of algae eater like a BN plec?

That does sound like a neat tank!

Loaches: Do not get clown loaches! They get very large and need to be in a big group. Instead get 3 or 4 yoyos, kuhlis, zebras, or any other smaller species.

Or if you get corys: They're all adorable!! Just make sure you get at least 6, as they need to be in a school.

Gouramis: IMO 3 pearls would be a gorgeous addition to your tank. Dwarf gouramis have been known to be aggressive towards each other when kept together, though I had no problem with 2 in my 55g.

School: Any rainbows would be the best option for color. Dwarf neons are my personal favorite rainbows. If you'd rather go with tetras, look here. There's too many to list

Angels: A pair should be ok. Sometimes if you happen to get 2 males they'll tend to be aggressive, but not always. If you get a male and female you may get them to breed

Good luck deciding

Yeah, ive been warned about the clown loaches, thanks.
Hmm, seems like corys are the go.
How many would be optimal for my tank?

You could probably get a nice set of 8 or so (depending on the type) in there...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

Excellent, thanks again everyone.
Does it matter which order i introduce them in??
I was thinking:

Ill add the 8 (maybe more) Rainbowfish to start with
then add the 8 or so corys
then the 2/3 gouramis
and lastly the 2 angelfish.

Sound good?
How long should i wait between adding new fish?

You should probably only add 3 or 4 fish at a time or you could get a mini-cycle. I usually like to wait a week between adding fish to allow the good bacteria to accomodate the new bioload. The order sounds good though. I personaly would do it like this:

4 rainbowfish
4 more rainbowfish
4 cories
4 more cories
2 angelfish
2 Guoromis

and wait 5-6 days between them (I like to wait a week because that's when I get paid )

I actually add 2-3 fish at a time and give it 7-10 days to accomodate the cycle and my wallet. You can't go too slowly when adding the fish...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

The only trouble with only adding 2-3 at a time is when you have to make a 4 hour round trip for the fish you want... That makes it very tempting to add more fish at a time... But I agree it's better to add them slowly.

Hi Tdub

I've just got myself a 50gal tank also (and made a similar topic before finding this one) - what did you decide on in the end - any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

Clinton
