i have what appears to be hair/beard algae in two of my tanks. it's short, straight, thick, 'tufts' of "hair" that is dark to medium greenish-black.

it hasn't gotten out of control yet... it just grows here and there, but in my one tank it is starting to grow on the plants, which i imagine can't be good for them.

one tank is a 55G that is heavily planted, the other is a 29 that has a few live plants (crypts and an anubius) and some plastic. i fertilize both tanks using seachem flourish (usually once a week).

both tanks get 30% water changes once a week and have great water quality. they receive about 10 hours of light a day (the bulbs are standard aquarium flourescents... nothing special).

any idea what could be causing this?

thanks in advance!

p.s... it seems to be worse in the 29 than the 55
