Hey all,
I've ordered some Bolivian Rams from the lfs and despite the fact that I've been waiting a few weeks now, it only just occurred to me that my quarantine might be too small for them. I ordered 4 in the hopes of eventually getting a pair, and my quarantine is a 10 gallon. I know it would be too small for them once they grow up, but we're expecting juveniles.

So my question is whether or not 4 juvenile Bolivians would be alright in a 10 gallon for a month long quarantine or if they'll have to go right into the main tank?

Thanks,
Hawkeye

Sure, I don't see why there'd be a problem.

they should be fine! an adult pair would do fine in a 10g solitarily, so why wouldnt 4 juvies do the same? hope you do get a pair!!!! just make sure you quarantine them long enough!

GOOD LUCK

as long as we're on this topic of quarantining new fish, how many of you do quarantine new purchases, and for how long, in what sort of set up?

While I'm all for the theory of quarantining new fish, I rarely do it in practice and I think it's probably just by sheer dumb luck that I haven't introduced anything nasty to my tanks so far.

Thanks for the input everyone, and ya, I really hope we get a pair as well. They'd be the stars of our community tank.

As for quarantining habits, my GF and I try to do it with each new purchase these days. The 10 gallon was our first tank, and naturally when you first buy a tank you don't often think to buy another tank to quarantine your new fishies. So the oh so obvious conclusion to this story is we ended up enjoying heavy losses eventually due to this process and so when we eventually upgraded to our current tank we decided to learn from history.

Since then of course we've been forced to forgo the usual month long quarantine for a shorter one in extreme conditions, such as our first algae eaters in the main tank when we waited till the last possible second to get them before the algae actually evolved sentience and decided to take over the apartment. But...long story unnecessarily longer, we usually do a month in the aforementioned 10 gallon.
