Well, I was vacation all last week. I came back and went to greet my fishie friends... everyone is present and accounted for, but I've some concerns.

First, my plants look less than happy. I wouldn't be surprised to find this happening to my ten gallon (which can't be put on a timer), but my twenty gallon should have gotten the same amount of light as usual. Why, then, do some of the plants look like they've been light deprived? I have those dwarf lily bulbs from Walmart which were doing quite well before I left, but I returned to find them pale pink (instead of that lovely red) and melting.

I cleaned all the tanks before I left, including the four betta tanks. The lights weren't on in the betta tanks last week as the room gets enough ambient light and it allowed me to put the ten gallon on a timer (the guy looking in on the fish could then turn on the light in the morning and the timer would shut it off at night). How, then, did one of the betta boys wind up with more algae than I've ever seen in his tank? And fin rot to boot. *growls* He has NEVER had issues with fin rot before and is in fact one of the healthiest bettas I have.

I don't understand, as all the bettas are on a shelving unit, so they all get the same amount of light. If anything, I'd think the bettas on the top two shelves would get more light, not the boy on the third shelf who is so much less likely to get direct sunlight...

Ah well... such is life, eh?
