Ok, tell us your tank size in gallons, UK and US if possible, and then also tell us your stocking. Reason being is certain fish might not be very good with your current stock. I am going to suggest African Butterflyfish and if you can get 2 but if you hav esmall fish that go up to the surface sometimes and stay there for a while African Butterflyfish may not be such a good idea

I have a wrestling halfbeak. Sorry don't remember the scientific name. He is really unusual looking and stays at the top level of tank at all times. He's about 2" now but can grow to 4.5". Definately worth a look, if you would like sometning peaceful, small but very unusual.

Thanks everyone

Brought some Zebra's a couple of weeks ago and they are just fine - not disturbing the other community at all

Brought some Marble hatchets tonight from teh LFS - had a deal with him and brought 7 for 6 and a free plant - it pays to barter - LOL - try it as it works when the gaffer not about - they are great - lovely fish

Working with two FLUVALS at the moment and "cleaning" tank weekly - hope to move some fish to my new 240 litre tank when the Wifes had her new carpet down in the very near future

Regards

Dave

Could you just write down the tank size and the fish in your tank so we can suggest the best fish for your tank!

Splashing tetras or whatever they are called in english might be an interesting alternative if the tank is covered.

So here I am once more...

Arrowanas...though they might get just a little bit too big

the limited experience I've had with livebearers is that they stay towards the top of the tank.

Killifish? Depending apon the species, they will stay at the very top of the tank. But then again, depending apon the species, they will either eat your neons or not.

I wouldn't say they stay on the top, but my rasboras pretty much stay in the middle to about half way to the top of my tank.

My guppies stay at the top a lot, but they also come down, but I would say 60% of their time is at the top, 30% of their time in the middle, and 10% at the bottom.

Other cool surface fish are the hatchetfish species. They jump, so keep the hood covered! They are schooling, so a group of them is good.

Are "Zebra's" the best?

Will they be too lively for my Neons - as I brought some "Silvertips" and they scared them silly - had to take them back!!

Thanks

My cochu's blue tetras stay mainly in the upper 20% of the tank. They are active, and kind of play a game of tag with each other. Some people will say they are fin nippers, but mine are not. They even get along great with my ultra peaceful glass cats. I love the color of these tetras. They are not very common around here, so that gives them added appeal to me.
