Question.. I am getting my hands on a 25g with all kinds of equipment for only $20 tonight.. but the tank had been sitting dry for like 10 years. and before i dont know how it was used before

Is this going to be ok? or should it be resealed? thanks

If its been sitting dry for 10 years, to be on the safe side I would reseal it. At the very least, fill it and let it sit for a good week to see if it leaks. Its better to be safe than sorry.

I agree with the above post, let it set with just water in it for about a week, preferably outside. Good luck.

I wouldn't put it in a bath tub, tub bottoms usually aren't flat and you would put major stress on the tank.
You may be better off getting a large rubbermaid tub to put it in for the test.

i'll look but i've never seen a tub thats longer than 5 ft long.. and the seems still feel rubery and soft like new tanks feel like... but it may end up sitting until the spring to get it tested

If it was me, I would go ahead & set it up in the kitchen when I was going to be home for awhile. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking if it leaked, it would more than likely leak right away, so that you could drain the tank right then with a siphon hose. If it leaked later, hopefully it would be slow enough that it wouldn't be that much & you could clean it up when you got home or woke up.

But that's just me. Impatient. I sure wouldn't wait till Spring to set up a new aquarium.

Make sure when you do set it up even for testing that the tank is on a level surface. If the surface is not level the weight of the water will shift to one side adding much more stress on that side.

Thats an awesome tank you have there monkeyboy. I wasn't trying to say that you didn't know anything about leveling a tank, I just added that in there for any beginers out there who might not understand the impotence of it. I was speaking in general.

10 years is not that long. I bet some tanks sit in little stores that long before they sell.

I have never seen dried silicon. I have tried to remove it though...very sticky!
