You could get a couple ottos for the bottom. It sounds like all the feeders are at the top, and nothing for the bottom.

Ottos are cool catfish!!!

Indeed, Soluble!
I myself, in my recent experience, have discovered how easily one can overstock a small tank. While overstocking to some degree is ok in the larger tanks, it is deadly in the little ones.
Thats why the advice they give beginners states "always buy the biggest tank that space and money can afford". Its probably the best advice on the market for tank selection.
Good luck!

Yes, 10 gallons are infamous. I stock my tanks lightly, and I think my fish thank me. For example, in my 20 gallon I have 3 guppies, 2 guppy fry and 6 corydoras.

Disease and territory are very big issues. If overstocking, even slightly, the amount of gravel vacing and waterchanges has to go up, and frequently done.

Corydoras and zebra danios are both schooling fish. Having only a couple is not going to do the fish any good. I agree that getting a larger tank would be better. Opens you up to more types of fish. Though 6 is the minimum stock for a school, the number can go higher!

I know I can't sway anyone with what I am saying, and I feel like I am ranting, I think overstocking is a big problem. I've done it, and I won't do it again. Having less fish in my tanks allows me some room for error, and allows the fish more elbow room.

I'm not directing this to anyone, I just think that we don't need to compromise a fish becuase we want lots of fish in a little tank.

Not to confuse or lead a newbie the wrong way, but I do not think that 3 guppies, 5 zebra danios, and 2 corys would be overstocked.
In my 10g I currently have: 7 Sunburst Platies, 3 Hi fin Platies, 12 guppies of which 3 are adults, the rest are under an inch size juveniles still, 2 Cory Trilineatus, and a Butterfly/Hillstream Loach, and 1 pink Kuhli loach.
These fish will be moving to a 25g tall tank within a month.
However: I would NOT reccomend putting so many fish in a 10g tank. The reason I have so many is from fry being born and nowhere else to put them!
Keep in mind this 1 really important thing that I have learned : A 10g tank can be a potential time bomb. IF something goes wrong (which can easily happen) , such as disease, or water quality issues, you will pretty much lose all your fish, or most of them. In a closed system as small as a 10g tank, anything that can go wrong easily does in an overstocked small tank. Disease spreads like wildfire, and water quality is easily destroyed by any contaminant, be it medicine, parasites, or ammonia.
You would be better off to return the 10g tank, and get at least a 20g.
It will save you from the need to rush out in 2 months time and get another tank, it will save you from the loss of many fish if something goes wrong, and will allow you to have the fish you want more easily.
Good luck!!!

I wouldn't really suggest that combination. Cories are schooling fish, and just having two would stress them out. Even 5 really isn't a good enough school for zebra danios. And the guppies will breed like crazy.

Basically, that would be one very overstocked tank.

That would put you way over your stocking limit.

6 danios and a trio or guppies would be fine...

or

four guppies (3F/1M) and a dwarf gourami

or

6 corydoras

The Chinese Algae Eater will get about 4-5"..They are agressive to slow moving Fish and will try and suck the slime coat from them, causing problems with your tank mates. I have had experience with both, calm and aggressive CAE's.......just depends

I am setting up a ten gal tank for my girlfriend. She wants to keep guppies and zebra danios and maybe some mollies. Is this combo OK and what ratios do I need to put the fish in. Also the tank is 20" by 10" I think, so what is the maximum amount of these small fish I can put in this tank? I have no aeriation, but good filtration. Thanks

Get rid of the Chinese Algae Eater. Uugghhh ... Evil things! They tend to become aggressive towards tank mates when they get older. Also, they often grow to 10 inches long. Way too big for a 10 gallon.

Also, check that the frogs are BROWN with WEBBED FEET and not PALE with CLAWED FEET. If you have the latter, then you have the Clawed Frog and not the Dwarf Frog. Clawed Frogs get larger and also become quite aggressive.

We have decided on 5 zebra danios and 3(1 male 2 female) guppies. Is there another fish that would be good to add? Maybe some corys

Mollies will probably get to big in the 10, but a school of danios (5-6) and a trio of guppies (1 male, 2 females) should be fine. There WILL be LOTS of fry though....

Danios should definitely be in a school of at least 5 or 6; otherwise they might harass other fish.

Three guppies would work, 1M/2F...just remember there will be fry

Since zebra danios are schooling, she should get at least 6. She could get 6 danios and a trio of guppies. Make sure to get 1 male and 2 female guppies.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.
