If you are using THR in your tank(s) or have used it in the past, I would like to see your comments. I'm curious about the limitations of the stone when it comes to planning a tank. Things like PH and H effects, as well as fish that like it or dont like it. Also, please make some recommendations about the best place to purchase it without having to drive to Texas. Thanks.

I'm interested in Holey Rock as well. How much of an increase of pH does it do?

As for buying, eBay has the chaepest holey rocks and some of them are quite nice.

I'm not sure if what I use is actual Texas Holey Rock, or just similar, but it does make the water hard and it raises the pH. My water (bearing in mind it's RO so starts at pH of ~6) is up to 8.5.

There are some fish who love it (e.g. most African cichlids) and some who can't stand it (e.g. most South American species) - be careful when choosing where to use it...

TX aint such a bad place. Why dont you come visit TX and pick up some Holey Rock.... Actually I live in Central TX and it is hard to find around here unless you go to the LFS and pay .99/lb.... My Cichlids love the stuff and it raises the PH slightly

I'm from central Texas too and I found all mine. Texas Holey Rock is just trash limestone from quarries in the area (mostly from Texas Crushed Stone in between Roundrock and Georgetown, TX). It keeps the pH high and raises the GH and KH too.
