I found some relatively cheap 29 gallon fish tanks yesterday in Calgary (125 american) and am rather tempted to purchase one. If i was, what would be some stocking suggestions?
I like fish that grow to a larger size, say 6 inches or so. I also would prefer fish that are relatively hardy and like to swim around lots.
I currently have a 33 gallon with 2 blood parrots and an electic yellow and i love the fish, i just don't like the inactivity that they represent some days. Thanks!

i would also go with a pair of convicts. they can get pretty entertaining to watch and you could end up with a stud with long fins!

Today at the fish store i saw a cichlid that was almost identical to the pictures of the convicts on this site, however, it was orange with black stripes (or black with orange stripes). I just about bought it but decided not to since i wasn't aware of what kind of fish it was. What kind of fish is it???

Is this the fish. [link=http://www.elmersaquarium.com/10cichlid_buterkoferi.htm]http://www.elmersaquarium.com/10cichlid_buterkoferi.htm" style="COLOR: #0000FF[/link]

If thats the fish It will difiantly grow far to big for a 29g. I've also heard that they get very aggresive.

I don't think that's the fish. It has a much similar look, however, the orange was the primary color on the fish at the store. The black was much less dominant than the black, and the orange was quite bright. That MIGHT be it but i'm not real sure on that.
