Well, I havent dropped in in a while so here is a pic of the tank as of today. Not a good pic but you get the idea.

Also, as some of you know I am on a never ending quest to sex my rams. Here is a pic of the two blues. I know for certain that the one on the right is female, as I have had her for a long time. But I need some help with the left one. This shot mainly show color differences as I cannot get up close detail shots with my dumb camera. The one on the left has more gold and orange on the face and chest, has a slightly elongated 3rd dorsal spike (it is still really young), and longer fins than the female. The only reason I an questioning the sex is because of the glimmer of pink i sometimes see in the abdominal area. I have heard that males sometiems show a little pink but Im not sure. Please help. Here is the bad pic.

Ryan:

The pic of the fish is a bit too blurry to say for sure and also small. Is there a hint of pink on the belly or not? I found this to be the most reliable identification for female blue rams, even at a fairly young age.

It looks like a male to me. Yes, males will sometimes have a small amount of pink - a mature female will have a very pink belly.

Catdancer,

I know my camera sucks, that is the best pic I could get of the two of them somewhat together. There is a glimmer of pink in a certain light. But not all the time. And when I do see it, it is very subtle.

Superlion,

Sometimes it does look male to me, with his yellow face and chest. The only problem is that he displays no black mark whatsoever. He did in the bag when I was acclimating him, but thats the only time I have ever seen it.

I suppose only time, and lots of good food will tell.

Thanks

Ryan,

the black markings are unreliable for sexing rams, the best is really the question 'pink or not'. Sometimes size helps with the fully grown male larger than the female. I remember that I once purchased a ram from a respected breeder (or so he called himself) at my aquarium society - I wanted a female but could not identify one in his tank. He stated with the voice of authority that the fish I purchased be a charming female. Charming the fish was, he fathered the next fry in my breeding tank

If it's any consolation ... If your fish is only slightly pink once in a while I am tempted to declare it male

Catdancer,

Lol I have gone through many fish (females) to find a mate for this little girl. So hoping 3rd times the charm here. I was thinking the black spot might help as that is what it talks about in the profile on this site. But I have seen many males with blue spangles in thier black spot.

Thanks for the help all.
