My oscar just passed away a few days ago and I was reading online about how some fish experts are claiming that oscars can die from the use of activated carbon in an aquarium. Has anyone else heard of this or know anything about it any truth to it. As I've always successfully used it with no problems.

That does not seem likely. Used correctly, activated carbon should remove a lot of impurities from the water, and used incorrectly it should just be extra biomedia.

Did they elaborate on why this was thought to be a problem?

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett
