| Vacation Feeding on a Cycling Tank | |

(If it would just cycle, I wouldn't have to post new questions ).I am going away for 3 days...and I know you are supposed to be able to leave healthy fish 5 days without food. Well, as far as I know, they are healthy. But since I have 3 platies and at least 15 platy frys in a 20gal tank, is there enough algae to sustain them? And since my tank has not cycled, is it going to be okay without monitoring it? My readings last nite were Ammonia 0.25 (on the downslide) NitrIte 2 (holding steady, but thats the top reading so far), NitrAte between 25-50 (hard to tell with the colors). My ph is about 7.6. My temp ranges from 79-83 (heater set at 82). When I keep my airwall on, the heat is maintained at 82-83, but when I shut it off, normally at feeding times and bedtimes, it drops. I will leave it on for vacation. Hopefully it doesn't have too strong of a current for them to rest at nite. So, basically, is it okay to NOT feed them for the 3 days I will be gone, and will the tank survive the cycling without me monitoring it? (Or will it possibly be done in 5 days?? Please please..lol) |

If you can have someone look @ it daily to verify that nobody's died that will be good. The tank very well may be finished cycling by then, however it's been my experience that the nitrIte phase takes the longest to drop. ^_^ ![]() |
