Wanna See Your Night Fish In The Day ? | |
Jerrard Fingerling Posts: 21 Kudos: 19 Votes: 5 Registered: 02-Oct-2007 | after spending a lot of time trying out some tactics with my nocturnal fish i have found that when putting them in a tank where you wih to see them thoughout the day if you lower lighting with tank there is about .50 watt per gallon and the room is generaly dark due to the dark blinds on the windows ,for example to .50 watt per gall or as high as .75 watts per gallon and add all nocturnal fish in a matter of a week to two weeks daily activity will increase. in a 55 gallon i have 2 ropefish 1 fire eel and a rubbernose pleco all of which a nocturnal, without super fast moving fish that rest at night, swimming aound the nocturnal fish will start to become active thoughour the day i found if you start to hit the brder of 1 watt plus per gallon you will start to send them back into the shadows.the only fish in that tank that isnt a bottomw dweller that preffers low light is a single feeder a cardnal tetra he has survived weeks in the tank after many if his family fell to the hunger of the monsters from below which is why we dubed him " Lucky" for some reason he survives and looks content he hangs out with feeders when we put them in there but they never last and they are all rose reds now so i know its the same cardnal surviving, this tank is a river tank with 2 fluval in tank filters running with a major side to side current runnign from the top and causing a reverse undertow at the bottom in the pic you can see its not heavily planted but the lighting is dim, plenty of driftwood and rocks at the bottomw i have found with many options to hide the fish start to become more adventurous in the day since there are alot of places to retreat to if they feel threatened before anyone mentios the tank size for the 2 ropes and the eel once sizes becomes a issue i have a 250 gallon for them but with the growth rate of rope fish this isnt a issue since the reach about 14inches and slow drastically as for eels they grow a bit faster but dont reach the size a rope would so 55 is a low acceptable range for them but if you have the want to see such types of fish gowing low light with alot of lower level hding spaces that reach up to the top gtom the bottom you will see your night fish morr often especially when there are no fast moving swimmers like tetras and danios in there aside from feeders, but iam sure alot of you will agree the smell of the fish a preditor primarily eats will casue them to frenzy especially ropes. and bichirs thanks. I guess it would work for people who use artificial plants instead, however. Most nocturnal fish will learn to come out during the day for some good live/frozen food once they are established. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |
