The largest capacity heaters I can find are for up to 75 gallon tanks.

Do they try to "orchestrate" the settings on 4 or 5 heaters to work in tandem, so none of them overheat and wearout sooner than they should?

There is nothing fancy that needs to be done, just space out the heaters inside the aquarium and set all of them to the desired temperature.

Do you know of heaters that will handle 100 gallon tanks?
(so I could buy fewer heaters?)

Oops!....I just found 300, 400, 500 and 1000 watt heaters by Hydor Theo.

Are they good?
(I know to stay away from Tetra brand heater, as not long lasting)

A heater can brake two ways. Full on and full off. If you have two heaters and one brakes full on, it should not be enough to boil your fish (like what happened to my fish). If one brakes full off your other heater will keep the fish from freezing. IMO you should always get two heaters.

OK, I'll do it all my tanks.
I knew it was a good idea to run 2 simultaneously for that reason.

That's another reason I like heaters that have a light that comes on when heating (I can see if one never comes on, or never goes off)

thanks all!

It can be tricky dialing in temps with large tanks. It takes a while. You can get digital thermometers that record high and low temps which is nice. Don't trust the temp markings on your heater!

daddySEAL .. I have a Jaeger ( Eheim Brand ) 100W heater in the 240 g . It works fine and keeps the temp rock solid in winter . I used to have 2 50w heaters that did not do as good a job .
I also position my heaters near the Cannister inlet so some of the water gets drawn in thru the cannister and out the other end of the tank . Seems to work well .

I have 150 tank and use 2 300 watt heaters and put them right under the output from my 2 filters with them set at the same temp. I have multiple digital thermometers on all ends and my temp stay within .5 of each side. So maybe 3 300 or go 2 of higher wattage

3- 5 watts per gallon is a good general rule however if you live in a warmer home you can use less.

A pair of 250-300 watt heaters should be enough. Most people in the US live in well heated houses anyway.

Yea, last winter I didn't even plug the heaters for my 150g tank in. And the temp never got below 75

Well, as is my way....I "over filter, etc. equipment-wise" with three 400 gallon per hour power bio-filters from marineland that HOB, as an example.

I'm now running two 400watt Hydor Theo heaters on the big tank.
One at the inlet of a powerhead pump on one end of the tank, and the other at the other end of the tank, near the UV Sterilizer outlet(powerhead outflow) that I've installed under the tank stand in the center. I have the simultaneous on/off temperature settings pretty close now, because I bought them because they have light indicaters that turns on when heating (besides the heater size).

Thanks
