We did some swapping around of fish this past weekend because there was no movement, everyone just laid around. I find it funny that if you change just one fish, the whole dynamic of the tank can change. They start picking on eachother or they all hide. I have finally found a happy medium in all my tanks. The only tank I dont mess with is my 75 gallon with a Malawi Eyebiter...he is getting big and is soooooo beautiful but I have him in with a weird mix, like a Firemouth and a really mean Electric yellow and some Giant Danios....they never attack eachother and you'd think they would.:%)

I absolutely agree that adding another species of fish completely changes the dynamic of the tank. In my 29 gallon, I had 6 black neons, 4 gold barbs, and some cories that always tended to stay near the bottom and never move, but when I added some bloodfin tetras it was like a different tank! Everyone was active and swimming around. Kind of amazing!
Good luck
Jen

Very true! And sometimes it's adding fish you hadn't thought would fit in or work that makes the tank.

When i first added my BN and yo-yo loaches, there were 6 tiger barbs in that tank. When the pleco was on the glass the barbs would go over and peck at her. Then the yo-yos would swim full speed ahead into the school of tigers, like a bowling ball. After i got rid of the tigers i replaced them with h. rasboras and everything is peaceful. i worried beforehand that the yo-yos would be aggressive towards the rasboras, but nothing at all. the rasboras even hang out around the bottom of the tank near the yo-yos favorite piece of driftwood with no problems at all. funny how things work out

I now have 6 h rasboras, 2 blue dwarf gouramis and a dwarf pleco. gonna be adding 3 yo-yos next week (hopefully) and returning 2 mollies to the tank. they always got along fine, but will be interesting to see what happens. oh, btw the tank that now houses the mollies will be home to a trio of dwarf puffers.
