brown algae or diatoms
how long has your tank been setup?
and do you have light over the tank?

ususally caused by silicate or low light, silicate will decrease with time and water change, you can inprove the light to deal with low light problem.

It may be algae. Can you show us a picture? You will have to use photobucket.com or imageshack.com to post a picture.

Its hard to say what it is without seeing it. Brown things could be anything.

No, the guy that posted the topic.

He is extremely overstocked in his 10g..that is probably one source of his algae problem.

Paul: make sure you only leave your hood lights on for about 8 hours. If you can add some plants in there, that will help a little with the algae. If you have low light, some good plants are java fern, anubias, and crypts. The first two mentioned will need to be attached to rocks or driftwood. Clean out all the algae you can. I would do twice weekly water changes, since you are overstocked. Do atleast 40% each time.
