I just got into a 55G, & want to complete my stock of it.
Currently I have:
2-blue Goramis 2"
1-paradise fish 1 1/2"
2-zebra danio's & 1 spotted 1 1/4"
4-cherry barbs 1"
1-bristlenose Pleco 3"
I'm gonna add more Danio's, probably 5-6
I also made the booboo of having a Convict (friend gave to me) in there & a Blue Botia, which I originally thought was a RTBS, that I am bringing to the LFS ASAP(today). Beginners mistakes.
I wanna get an RTBS, is that a good idea, & are there any suggestions for anymore tankmates?

How long have you had your blue gouramis? They can sometimes be temperamental, like the profile here says Varies widely from peaceful to intollerant. The same with paradisefish, although I've never had problems keeping one in a community tank.

Definitely increase the school of danios to keep down nippiness.

I've never kept an RTBS so I can't help you there.

I've had all 3 goramis about 2months. They were faily tolerant of each other in the 20g they were in b4 now in the 55 they rarely even look @ each other. I really wanna try an RTBS & does anyone know of any cichlids that I can possibly keep also. I was thinking about yoyo loaches but none of the LFS have any.

well, does anyone have any suggestions? I wanted to get some feedback. Are there any peaceful Cichlids that are fairly big that will not try & eat the smaller fish, like the Convict did. Or is there perhaps a different species that will be peaceful with a good size for my 55. My tank really seems empty right now & its killing me, as I got rid of the convict & loach and havent added anything yet,

Yes, I think you could add a RTBS. After upping the danio school, you could get rams or some apistogrammas. They are small cichlids that are relatively peaceful. You might also try angels, but I don't know that you need another centerpiece fish. I would probly get a school of bottomfeeders, since thats the strata in which you are lacking. 8 cories, or some loaches. It depends on what YOU like.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Thanx Janna, I wanna go w/ Loaches but it seems like all the LFS in my area only carry clowns & Blue Botia's which it seems get too large for a 55. I'll probably just wait aroumd untill some yoyo's or Kuhlis come around. I'm not a big fan of cory's so I don't wanna go that route. I like the ram idea as I was taking a look @ them.

I'm a beginner & didn't even realize there was more than one kind. I guess I have to research now.

There is German(blue, gold dwarf butterfly cihclid)) and Bolivian(bolivian butterfly). Bolivians are much more hardy, and german are less and need special acclimatization. See which ones you lke better. they look a lot different in real life htat they do in the photos on this website. Especially the Bolivian. So go and ssee what they have a your lfs. The Bolivian is: altispinosa, and the german is: ramirezi
