| What fish should I get? | |
XXXJaKZXXX![]() Small Fry Posts: 11 Kudos: 1 Votes: 0 Registered: 15-Jun-2003 | I have a 2' x 1' x 18" tank. At the moment I have two 8-10cm gouramis, two 5-6cm Blue Acaras, a 3cm Black Shark, a 9cm rainbow shark. At the moment they are all living peacefully together. I want to add some more fish to add to the colour. I was thinking about adding a couple of medium size fish that hang around the top of the tank and some schooling fish. Do anybody have any suggestions for what I should get. |

If you judge the stocking of a tank by the way tanks are stocked at fish stores, yours will always be overstocked because it can become far too much for that small of an area to substain. I'd recommend getting rid of the Black Shark, the Rainbow Shark, and the Blue Acaras. They should all be kept in larger tanks so that they can have the space requirements they need for growth and territorial abundance. As for the gourami, if they are dwarf gourami, then they can be kept. If they are any other kind of gourami, then they need a bigger tank also... As for your tank, I'd look at getting some schooling fish, a dwarf gourami, or a ram. All of these would be able to do fine in that tank and, with the right selections, you can have a gorgeous tank set up in no time... ![]() BTW, welcome to FishProfiles, and I hope you don't think we're being mean or anything. We're glad you're here and don't feel like we're ganging up on you. We just want your fishkeeping to be successful and fun and the fish's lives to be as nice as possible. We're glad to have you here and we hope that we can all help each other... ![]() PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread. |

They can be very mean... Though it may work for now, when they grow older the more crowded conditions can start this fish, the cichlids, or the other shark to start acting quite aggressively. I would add some peaceful community fish, maybe a school of cories. |
