silver dollars are peaceful so any fish really. but the sd get pretty large and need lots of space. any small tropical fish would be okay. take you pick.

would other fish do like?

Larger cichlids will do fine. Angels, Jewels etc. Make sure you feeed them some plant materials as that is natural in there diet. Or you could make it just a silver dollar tank and get more silver dollars and a bn plec

They do fine with just about any species. They have even been suggested as dither fish for larger CA cichlid aquaria. The only fish I can think of off the top of my head as being unsatisfactory tankmates would be certain species of pufferfish.

I think that you are limited by the size of your tank. My silver dollars get along well with tinfoil barbs, parrots, severums, and tiger barbs in a 110 gallon tank (roughly a 6 foot long tank). I'm afraid that the only fish that might go in your tank are the tigers. Beware the tigers because they will nip the fins of any small fishes in your tank.

In my experience, silver dollars are rather timid fish.. something on the small side such as tetras would probably suit that size tank and those mates best. You are aware the silver dollars might need a larger tank down the line to be truly happy?

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an bacon and egg breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

If you really want your tank to look good (I think thats the whole point), get a school of neons(or some other small & colorful fish) to make a size variety and add color. Then find some small, peacful cichlids that you like. I would keep it south american: blue rams, flag cichlids, T-bars, keyhole. Then add lots of bad teasting plants. You should not add fish that get big. After that you should have a good lookin set up.

I would venture to say that you tank is already too small for silver dollars. They are large, active fish, and they need a tank that is at least 6 feet long. I wouldn't keep them in a 3 foot tank for more than several months or so.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.
