I went to the fish shop on the weekend and traded in 7 giant danios and got 5 rosy barbs 3 pakistani loaches and 2 bristlenoses.

when I put them into my algae ridden tank they all imediately went to work.

Now I had a full grown BN in the tank and another school of pakistani loaches.

As soon as I introduced them they started cleaning glass, picking at gravel and sifting through the gravel and the old inhabitants of the tank also went to work doing the same thing.

I have a bucket sized clear spot on my aquarium glass where the bristle noses cleaned off brown spot algae that I had trouble removing with a razor! I cant beleive the older BN wasnt doing as good a job as the new ones have done.

Maybe its because of the youth of the fish or maybe they have been starved at the shops. I am not sure why they go about cleaning the tank with more gusto than the other inhabitants. Im just amazed at what a great job they have done.

it is probably the fact that they are oportunistic feeders and they werent fed much in the LFS... also the competition between the new additions might have made the old fish a little worried about the lack of food and got them on the job!

good luck with the new guys and hopefully they keep up the good work!

I think it is two things.
First, the pet stores doesn't feed them alot.... as feeding cuts into profits....food cost more tank main.

Second they haven't learn yet that someone will be comming by and delivering food, twice aday.
