I've had a golden gourami, Star, for 3 1/2 years now. He is loaded with personality. He's the Big Kahuna in my 20 gal.

Theresa_M is this your oldest Betta? If not how old have you had them for?

I had one for almost 2 years. He'd might still be alive if it wasn't for the move. It was 5 hour drive, at the time I knew nothing about fishkeeping. For the move I just had him in a small cup sitting next to me on the passenger seat I think he lasted about 3 months after that

Jim is just a PetSmart betta but he's special because my youngest son chose him for me on his 6th birthday last year. He was named after my son's imaginary friend

A common pleco. I've had him for eight years now. There are several others over three and four years old but Big Al takes the cake at 8 years running.

seedkiros how old is your Betta?

Theresa_M is this your oldest Betta? If not how old have you had them for?

I only started fish keeping a year ago, so I can not tell you much. My hubby has a Albino Rainbow Shark now for a year and some mollys that he is pretty much attached to. I myself had a drama with the hood of my tank leeching toxic back into the water and it wiped out most of my fish.
The bristlenose and the head stander survive that. So I recompend them gladly. The longest I had a Betta for is nearly 10 months.

By single fish i mean the same exact fish. Also, during this time you must have been taking care of the fish and still be interested in it, not just having a fish in a tank for like 1 year without doing anything about it except feed it or whatever. What i mean is like a fish that has always kept you interested in him/her, whether it may be because of his/her beauty or personality.

I myself, I've never really kept a fish that could survive very long, mainly because i don't have such a large tank. The only large tank i have in my house (145 gallon) belongs to my brother, and because he has that tank in his room, my mom doesn't want to buy another tank, saying there's not enough space etc etc. Anyways, the longest I've kept a fish that i've still always been liking is my male betta. A plain ol' veil tail (butterfly red/white veiltail). He's still alive actually, and i still love him

I had a goldfish that lived for around 10 years in a 10 gal (too small of a tank, I know). He was a trooper though, went weeks at a time with no food/filtration (even worse).

The fish I have kept for the longest is also a male veil-tail betta, Charlie. I had him for almost two and a half years before he died.

I used to have 4 koi that I'd had for 11 years but we moved house and couldn't take them with us. They're still alive, though.

EDIT: Whoops, you said single fish, sorry.
