its like that in the UK too Toirtis, its a nightmare!

petrol is in liters... unless ur talking abobut miles to the gallon lol

weights are in Kgs... unless ur talking about somebody's weight then its in stones and pounds lol

milk we get in liters... unless its from the milkman then its in pints lol

and height or measurements can be in anything you want?! I'm 5 foot and 15cm

I mean where is the logic!!?!?

In Aus we use litres for pretty much everything.
milk, drinks, petrol, ice cream etc.
we use cm for height
and kilos for weight

After reading this thread, my head hurts

Try living in Canada, where we swap about metric and imperial measurements daily...we buy our milk, pop, and petrol by the litre, but measure our height and weight in inches and pounds....go figure.

After reading this thread, my head hurts and I question if a "gallon" really exists or not. Maybe my tank doesn't hold any gallons at all; just 50...

50 UK gallons = 227.25 Litres
50 US gallons = 189.25 Litres

There fore UK gallons are greater/larger than US gallons

Personally... I use albanian gallons... Which are the exact measurement of a thimble produced in 1932 by a company that no longer (and may never have) existed for the purpose of sewing napkins for the first denny's in biloxi mississippi.

A Canadian Gallon is actually larger than a US gallon by something like .3 of a litre! big difference woopdee doo. 1 canadian gallon= 4.3 Litres, 1 US gallon = 4.0 litres, and I have no idea about the UK gallon

I used the calculator thing here, and I got this:
Litres: 223
US Gallons: 58.92
UK Gallons: 49.06
So what should I go by if I'm Canadian?
Thanks,
-Meg

Yes, all US gallons here...at those measurements, the tank is (more accurately) 223L/49.1UKG/58.91USG...which is usually rounded-up to be called a 60 gallon tank, but actually holds more like 55 gallons, once you factor in glass thickness, water level (typically an inch from the ultimate aquarium top), etc.

Just a question

How does measuring in US gallons makes you tank larger than it was before?

Also If it was overstocked in Uk gallons it would still be overstocked in US gallons.

UK gallons are larger than US gallons; so 50UK gallons is more than 50US gallons.

I guess I'll just go by either the UK gallon or the US gallon. Or could I kinda go imbetween? Anyways, I think I'll just call it a 50 gallon because that was what I was told it was when I got it.
I don't want to post what is in my tank because everybody will start getting mad at me.]:|
