About two weeks ago I bought 4 rams with the idea of breeding them and the guy at my lfs said to feed the fry hard boiled egg yolk until the get big enough for newly hatched brine shrimp. He said to break off little pieces and rub them between your fingers so the kind of disolve. sounds messy to me but I thought I'd do a water change after feeding and try to suck up what they don't eat.

How big were you rams when they spawned?

I dont know how big, but i'll say both of them are about 1" to 1.5" long.

Did your fry survive or was it just a suggestion from your LFS??

It was a suggestion from the lfs. My rams are still only about an inch long and haven't spawned yet. I think I read somewhere that daphnia work as a first food for small fry but they look like a pain in the --- to raise. Good luck and let me know if you get something that works.

did u do anything specific to get urs to breed as mine havnt done yet but they do show breeding behaviour sometimes.e.g did u raise temperature or anything? i heard the egg yolk thing works but it pollutes water so only use as much as needed and as alreay stated do get rid of excess and do a partial water change after feeding.

To get them in the mood hehe...i fed them like 5-6 times a day, and didn't feed any food they were already fed that day.

1.) Flakes
2.) Krill
3.) Tubifex worms (dried)
4.) Sinking Shrimp Pellet
5.) Bloodworms

This is what i fed them daily and change their water every other day. Also make sure when you change the water, its a little bit cooler.

I am breeding them in a 30 gallon cube. There's no plant in it except Java moss and the substrate is Tahitian black moon sand.

I did throw 2 females and 1 male in the tank. After they paired up, I removed the extra female and moved her up into my 75 gallon tank.

The babies are still not free swimming, just moving in their pits, they still look like the eggs

I'll try the eggs once they start free swimming. I have about 50 fries or so I think.

What did they spawn on? Do they like rocks, plants, or the glass?

They spawned in the sand, they made a pit and layed their eggs.

Female moved the babies to other spot yesterday, and she moved them back to their original spot today. I'll keep you updated on how things go.

So far babies aren't free swimming.

I have heard that they spawn on plants, gravels, or just about anything. My last breeding pair spawned on the plant. They were in the 75 community tank so no eggs survived.

I started my fry off on liquifry for about 2 days then slowly put little amounts of BBS at a time to see if they eat it, and they do.
