I got 2 angels about a week ago, I have fed them blood worms but they are still quite shy and I can't tell if they're eating. One is hanging around near the top corner of the tank, the other hides most of the day as well. Is there some kind of wonder-food that will tempt their appetites? (If I only knew fish would cause this much anxiety before I got them...)

I'm not an angel expert, but I have a 29 gallon tank with two angels in it, and when I put them together they were pretty stand-offish with eachother until they paired off as a mating couple. Until then, one would henpeck the other a little, and both would hide out a bit and be only semi-responsive to food. Their eating habits became normal after they paired off though.

Ways to get them to eat right now : Seachem makes a garlic additive which you're supposed to mix with food. Supposed to stimulate their appetite. I haven't had need to try it, so afraid I can't say for sure.

Or, like Boil said, try a few different types of foods. Another way is to not feed them for maybe three days or so, then feed them what it is you want them to eat for the most part. They'll be a little more apt to give it a try then.

If nothing works, might need to start looking at other problems, possibly health related or water parameters, etc.

edit- due to the fact I can't spell " supposed" apparently.

Frankly, I believe it best to feed ALL fish a varied menu... Mine are fed three times daily, and fed flake, brine shrimp, pellet + bloodworms on a rotating basis --- and all seem to thrive!
In fact, I was advised at my lfs that it's best to feed various foods since it helps build fish immunity -----
If various foods are offered, I'm sure there will be something that your Angels will find to their liking - and perhaps, find other foods as well......
Good luck! (Angels are quite beautiful aren't they????)

I'd try frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms. If that doesn't work, try the supplement. It has garlic in it and it enhances the flavor and will stimulate their appetites.

I would say theyre really stressed about something or have a disease because my angelfish is hungry and begging for anything 24/7. I try to feed my ottos n stuff algae wafers and he even steals them! He eats too much and gets bloated too, gotta be carefull with that heh.

I believe there's a product called "Entice" (or something like that), which supposedly makes the food taste better to fish. That's all I know about it, sorry. I just heard my manager talking about it to a customer a couple days ago.

If new angels are not eating then they are under stress, you could give them there favorite food in the world and they wouldnt take a glance at it, unless they were swimming away from it. The only thing you can do is just wait it out and see what if they come out of it. You may also want to check your water there may be something off that they arnt liking.

Not sure if this is relavent or not, but I had a problem with my perlmutt juvies eating and they just hid in the rock work and never ate. I found by keeping the light off for a week they're now much more out and LOVE to eat. They've even started not to run into the rocks when I approach.

Try and vary their diet a bit---that will get even the most finicky eater off his or her hunger strike. If they lok like they're going for the food, but don't actually eat it, you may have interal parasitic problems. Otherwise, it's either due to aggression of moving stress.

They're probably just settling in, or can't find any kind of food that they like.

Give the previous owner a call and find out what (s?)he had fed them. Try feeding them some of that...they know it's good

I feed most of my fish 9 different kinds of food (various flakes, pellets, wafers, etc), and they can all find something that they like. For example, my cories like Hikari algae wafers, the dojo loach I used to have likes sinking crab pellets, my celebes rainbowfish likes the red flakes in Tetra's "The Rich Mix". Personally, I like French Fries

If you give a fish plenty of choices, they're bound to find something they like
