The current stock is
3 upsidedown catfish
1 honey dwarf gourami
2 electric yellow cichlids
1 chocolate pleco
2 ottos

so followin the inch per gallon rule i have enough room for
about 3 inches of fish

*sigh* The inch per gallon rule...that is one fishkeeping rule that shouldn't be followed.

For example:

6 one-inch neons do NOT have the same effect on the bio load as 1 six-inch oscar.

As for the original question...I think that it'd be wiser to just add a couple more ottos since they seem to feel secure in groups.

3 upsidedown catfish-3x3=9 inches
1 honey dwarf gourami-2.5 inches
2 electric yellow cichlids-5x2=10 inches
1 chocolate pleco-16 inches
2 ottos-2x2=4 inches

9+2.5+10+16+4= 41.5 inches
Um, yeah--you're cramming about 40 inches of fish in a 20 gallon, and you want to add MORE?! The inch per gallon rule doesn't work for anything really over one inch in length--even schoolers, and keeping a 16" pleco in anything less than a 100 gallons is just wrong--I'd even go up to 150.

Remove the electric yellows...they need a high ph and hard water, the opposite to what most of your other fish need. They're also very aggressive, and not suitable for a 20 gallon tank. The rest of your stock sounds okay (though I'm not sure how big the pleco will get), just add to the otos as suggested and maybe get a small school of tetras or something to finish it off.

I'd switch out the pleco for about 3 more Otos. I'd also suggest that you start planning for an upgrade to a larger or additional tank (when space and budget can cover it). HTH!

giant danios are nice active top dwellers, but yea a 20 gallon tank stocked like that already doesn't leave any room for them.
