The other day my wife notice when she got home from work a lot of little white spots all over the glass. It's on every side. It just appered about 2 days ago. When she called me at work I figured that it was just a few patches of snail eggs (we have pond snails), but it is like a thin sheet from the bottom to the water line. The spots are mostly round, but some are ovalish. I took some pictures of the tank this morning, and you can kinda see them in a few pictures. In the pics it looks like water spots, but on the inside.

I was thinking it is some kind of alge. My wife thinks that they are fish eggs either from the neons or the cories. Any help would be nice.
The pictures are here: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jkusterbeck/album?.dir=/e58b&.src=ph&.tok=ph5acdEB3bL0JbPZ
Thanks

John

Oh in the tank are
2 German Rams
4 Albino Cories
5 Platies (6 if you can find the 2 day old Fry)
5 Neon Tetra

The tank is a 29 gal

I can't really see the spots, but I can say that eggs are not the cause. You said that they covered all areas of the glass, and there is no way that any of your fish or even snails would have done this.

If you look at the front glass from one of the side panels, can you tell if the spots protrude out any? If they seem to be mostly flat along the glass, then it might be just some kind of harmless algae growth. I haven't heard of white spot algae, but it's likely possible. If you scrub this stuff off, what happens?

yea, it either sounds like an algae or a bio-film common in new tanks, or tanks that have a fairly high biological load.

Have you added any fish recently, and how long has the tank been set up with fish in it?

it did protrude a little way away from the glass. As fish swim along the side it would ripple with the current. I talked to a couple of guys at my great lfs and they figured it was probably some type of alge.

I did just get some new fish. I got 2 rams and also the driftwood and java fern. The tank has been setup for about 9 months.

I picked up a mag-flot and it all wiped right off. When it would pass over the stuff it would come off float around for a few seconds then get sucked into filter.

Thanks

John
