I need to prepare incase my worse fear comes true. The Stairway i would need to get the 180g down through is pretty narrow and will be a challenge. The doorway is only 28" wide. Once through that doorway, the width becomes 32" for the rest of the staircase. The staircase goes down 51" and then makes a right angle. The rest is not a problem, but im very worried about it getting through that turn. I dont know of a better way to explain the situataion, but i did also try to make a visual aid. Im thinking i can walk it down to the platform (there is a platform at the 90 degree turn) and then start to stand it upright as much as i can (low ceiling) and then start to angle it downwards to get it through that turn (make sense?) So, who thinks that i wont make it down? Tank dimensions are 72.5"x24.5"x25.5"

you should be fine but you'll have to turn it upright like you said. i'd have to think your ceiling is over 6' so that should be OK.

i would get something about the same size as your tank (if you can) and test it first. or just try to fit the tank anyway. I mean I dont think that any damage would be done to the tank if you are careful and get some one else to help u.

Sounds difficult. What's the height profile of your staircase?

I have nasty, nasty memories of getting wood furniture up and down such a staircase. From my vaguely related experience, if you have any choice at all - and if the tank will take it - then you should probably take it down the whole way by standing it on end. If not, your original plan will work, assuming you even CAN stand it on end at the landing.

It can stand on its end on the landing, but the ceiling height dramaitically decreases as you go down the staircase. Putting it on its end and then slowly angling it down back to a horizontal position seems like the way to go. Now the trick is fitting 4 people into that narrow stair-case to carry it down.

Sounds extravagant but would winching it through a window be more suitable? Just a thought and probably more safety conscious than carrying it in such an awkward space.

Your plan seems the most sensable. My only question is, how did you get the tank up the stairs? However it got up there, that's how it can come down.
