I want to find my 2 fantail goldfish a new home, but was wondering of other people's experiences with their lfs taking fish back in trade for other fish.(I bought the 2 goldfish from them about 4 months ago) Would this be pretty presumptuos of me to ask? Or is it pretty common?

well it never hurts to try. and many people do go to there lfs and ask to return fishes. they should consider it and offer you a trade or store credit. thats if the fish appears healthy.

The LFS I work at will almost always accept people's donations. And you get store credit.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

There are some that don't accept fish & there are some that gives you Store Credit in return.

Some lfs only give credit if you take them back within 3-14 days, it just depends on the store. You could always just call them up and see what they say. If they won't give you credit, I'm sure at least they would accept them as a donation...

If your fish is dead then the Lfs usually wants it back in 3 days.

My lfs will take the fish back but I don't get a store credit or anything like that. I guess its better than letting the fish suffer.

Well, I did call the lfs and took Dumb & Dumber (the two Siamese Dolls Goldfish) back today. They gave me credit for half the cost of the fish. So I got 4 neon tetras in return. Not a bad deal. And I feel alot better about the goldfish. Just hope they don't end up in a bowl on someone's coffee table.
