I currently have 4 neons and 1 Dwarf Powder Blue Gourami in this tank. (I'm watching carefully to make sure the neon/gourami thing works, the first sign of trouble and the neons are outta there )
The lfs told me Silver Dollars and Tiger Barbs would work with a Gourami. I DO NOt want to overstock, or put fish that will get too large in this tank. Would these be ok? And what about bottom feeders? I really like the Ghost shrimp, but the lfs said they would be fish food for the gourami. And at 5.99 each, that's an expensive treat...

Silver dollars get too big and active for a 27 gallon
The tiger barbs would be good for a 27 gallon, but in your 27 gallon they might nip the gourami

Yes the barbs would most likely nip the gourami and the silver dollars need a 6 ft aquarium.

I would not put either of those fish in you 27 gallon tank. The silver dollars are to large, and the tiger barbs nip.
