| Would this be a good deal for a 90 gallon? Also how big IS a 90 gallon tank? | |
fishygirl68![]() Hobbyist Posts: 97 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Jul-2004 ![]() | I've seen advertised, a 90 gallon tank, I think with a Fluval filter, heater, decorations, etc. plus 2 large Angels, a school of tetras, rainbow bala shark (I'm going by memory here) and a few other fish. They are asking $400 (Canadian) Would this be considered a good deal? Also what are the dimensions on a 90 gallon tank? |

A 90 gallon tank is pretty big. Depending on the demensions I'd say it was 4-7 ft long and the height varys a lot by the shape. I have a neighbor who has a 80 gallon tank and lemme tell ya, it aint something ur going to want to put on a desktop. |

If it will be your first big tank you may want to start of with a slightly smaller tank, though personally I'd love a 90g If you're going for live plants you may have to replace the lighting, if you don't want any live plants, make sure that the filter is adequate (upwards of 450 g per hour). If the glass is heavily scratched then DO NOT BUY IT, glass gets it strength from the surface tension, scratches interfere with that and the last thing you want is 90g of water in your living room and your fish gasping for water on your carpet. |
fishygirl68![]() Hobbyist Posts: 97 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Jul-2004 ![]() | It comes with a stand, not sure what kind of lighting it has. My biggest tank is a 30 gallon so far. ARe 90 gallons hard to take care of? I thought the bigger the tank, the easier it is to keep it stable, etc.? |

The stands are really expensive in the local fish stores new. If it comes with a stand, 400 american seems like a good deal. dunno how to convert canadian to american though. |

My brother got an 140 gallon tank with everything for 400 canadian. Good condition and all, and it isn't the first time i've seen large tanks sell for this price. Where abouts in Canada do you live if you don't mind me asking? |

It came with 2 300 aquaclear, heater, canopy & light, the python clean and spill, and some other acess. It was half full when I bought and I when I got it home and filled it right up to leak test it was leaking. The glass is good with no stratches. But I still have a leaky aquarium. Make sure you double check the bottom glass condition. Any big stratches and it break. Second hand is cheaper, but in the long run it may be cheaper buying new. I also bought a 30g/w stand and access second hand for 60 can and have no problems with it. If you have any doubts, best to leave it alone. |

I just purchased a used 90g myself, the filter a fluval 403 was broken and missing parts (tried to fix it, ended up soaked in water as end result), and it cost me 200 dollars, then I had to build a hood, buy a light, heaters, air pump, accessories and all. So not that cheap in the long run, probably around 1000 dollars all in all. The stand is a Hagen wrought iron tube stand, it cost us 219.99, special order, and I need to add another filter to it, my fluval 204 is simply not enough. My 90g is 60 inches long, 18 inches wide and 20 inches tall, ringing in at actually 93.5g. I think you should go for it, you are probably looking at only spending around an additional 200-250 dollars for a good quality stand. That would mean a savings of around 400 dollars - and even if you consider the possible addition of a second filter at some point, you are still getting a sweet deal in my eyes!
