Congrats on the new additions and nice pics

I really like the smaller cories a lot. I have pygmies and they are much more active in the middle of the tank than any other bottom feeders I've kept. They also like to rest on anubias leaves.

So far, I think the new additions are all doing fine. The cories spend a lot of time out of view, and they are somewhat afraid of me. That is normal for new cories though, and I've gone through that phase before. They should calm down within a couple of weeks.

The cardinals are pretty happy, I think. They are not very afraid of me at all, and don't even school most of the time. They are like my well-established lemon tetras, and are getting very used to me. I really like my new fish a lot. It is really hard to spot those cories, though. They are around one, one and a half cm! Very small fish, and very hard to find when they feel like being stealthy. Hopefully they will become more active though, like they were in the store tank I bought them from.

i'm over stocked too, but i over filter too and i do a 15% WC about every 2/3 days the cards didnt seem to add that much to my bio load added them all at once, no adverse effects

Good purchases - hope they're all healthy

Well, I live in Texas, very near the coast and get my fish quite cheap. I believe you can find .99 cents cardinal where i live. But the price depend on the place you are buying your fish. A store only FOR fish is very cheap, not a well all-around pet store, like Petsmart charge me 3.99 for water sprite]

Nice cards, Books...I really like those cories too

Card's aren't very expensive, or hard to find, here. They're like $1.70ish usually.

I went to this big pet store about 45 minutes from me today, as planned. I was looking for a shoal of small cories. The last time I went there, they were out of C. habrosus, and only had a few C. pygmaeus left in stock. Much to my surprise, they had tons of habrosus in one tank. I bought six of them, and I'm pretty sure that these little fellas are healthy (unlike the other cories that I've bought from this store), as they were zooming around the tank. Unlike all the other cories I've ever seen, many of these were swimming around the middle of the tank (depth-wise)! This is normal, right? I've heard that they do this.

Aside from these delightful catfish, I made an unplanned purchase. I saw a very beautiful school of cardinal tetras, which are not available anywhere else in my area. Of course, I really wanted some. I reasoned that they are very peaceful, somewhat hardy (right?), and they don't produce much waste. So, like the compulsive buyer I sometimes am, I bought six of them.

Hopefully I will be able to sucessfully acclimate my new fish without any problems. It would be nice if (for once) the fish from this store aren't sick. They are all acclimating right now, and I will try to get some pictures. The colors of the cardinal tetras have faded somewhat, because of the stress of transportation. They should pretty right back up once they're used to my tank, though. Just thought I'd share my experience and new fish with you all!

They were $1.99 apiece, and $4.99 for three. Since I bought six, the grand total was $9.98. Not a bad price, considering that they are fairly tough to find (at least for me).

Well, IME, cardinals are usually QTed at the wholesaler for a few weeks, then shipped off. Beautiful cardys though. They'll look wonderful with your lemon tets, I believe.

Okay, here are a few pictures of the fish. I've added the cories already, and the cardinals are still acclimating. I don't know exactly how hardy they are, so I am taking no chances.

Cardinals getting used to the water...

The cories doing the same...

I would if I could. The only tank I own is the 29 gallon that these guys are going into. I've seen the same (I think) large school of cardinals every time I go to the store, in the same numbers. Hopefully they have been there a while, and been quarantined for me.

One quick question, though. Am I overstocked? I have, in my 29 gallon:
1 bristlenose (Ancistrus triradiatus)
1 German ram (planning to add another)
7 lemon tetras
5 longnosed cories (C. septentrionalis)
6 cardinal tetras
6 C. habrosus

I think I'm overstocked some, but I have superior filtration, and I do my water changes on a strict schedule, at least weekly. I've got plenty of oxygenation, and most of my fish produce little waste. Is my tank okay?

Sirbooks....I am so jealous....of course I've spent the morning in the local pet stores in the area, pricing tanks...I'm thinking 80 gallons for a reasonable enough price I suppose Now to find a stand....

Congratulations and best of luck with your new friends!!!
