Hey everyone! I think that Zebras lay eggs, yes? Well, whether they do or don't, my question still stands...I have a zebra who just all of a sudden got very very very fat! She isn't fat like an over-eating fish either, she is round like a balloon! I don't think she is sick however though, because she still eats and chases her friend around (I know I need to get more danios, but I had a lot and they passed away. I'm working on it, no grief please, just help me!!)...so can anyone explain what is up, or what I should watch for? You know what would be great? A pic of a "pregnant" female. That's another thing, how do I know if it's even female at all? Thanks in advance anyone and everyone!

hi brandy,

The way to tell males from females is females are more round and plump. And when they get really fat like that they are getting ready to drop eggs. They will do this wether there is males around or not. If you are trying to keep the babys then you will need a seperate tank. Other wise the other fish in your tank including the danios will eat the eggs and/or fry. Make sure there arent any abnormal signs besides swelling of the abdomen. And watch for scales sticking out like a pine cone. If you dont see any of those things then you should be safe. Hope i have been of some help.

Hey,
Thanks for the info, but I don't think I'll keep the babies. I just don't have the time to do the whole separate tank thingy right now. I don't see any sticky outty scarels, but I have been watching because I have had two fish dye from dropsey like that. It was bad. I just think she's gonna drop the eggs, From when she gets fat, do you know how long it'll be until she drops? Thanks again, hope to hear fromy ou soon.

Hey I recently have a tank full of danio fry. You dont really notice the Eggs or fry untill you clean your tank and usually if you check the water you will find little fry. Dainos spawn all the time there almost as worst as live breeders. Luckly if you dont want them the parents have something else to add on to their diet......
