yes true i would keep them on a high protien diet for the feeders! otherwise your oscar is eating a bunch on flakes! and a heart!

i have never heard of that. you can feed them regular food.feeder can have to much protein thats why 1 or 2 a month depending on size is a good rule. you could even supplement them and make the feeder good for the oscar.

after a trip to the LFS i found that if i were to get the swordtails or mollies i couldnt feed them because their food has unhealthy additives for the oscar to consume. is this true?

I wouldnt reccomend feeding feeder fish like you said from the petstore once a week! reason

#1 you dont know where they have been or how bad they have been treated
#2 big risk of disease from all of the stress!
#3 its safer to hatch your own!

I would forget about the guppies and go with mollies or swordtails. Eventually, your oscar will be able to swallow a guppy and probably not even notice. Mollies and swordtails get big enough that even a full grown 14-16" oscar will be full after only a few of them as opposed to around a dozen guppies.

how aften will the guppies reproduce? i would never have put a comet in a 20usg unless i planned on my oscar eating them later.

I think you could have about 11 guppies in the 20 long. A long tank is better than a tall one, remember. Also, a ratio of about 1 male to every 2 females is good. So 4 males and 7 females, roughly.

I don't know much about feeding feeders, but I know you shouldn't do it too often. Someone else can chime in with a better answer.

The difference between guppies and comets is cost. Since guppies will breed much easier, you will have healthy fish that don't cost you anything besides the original cost of the parents. Not to mention that it is cruel to keep comets in a 20 gallon.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

the differences are guppies can live comfortably in a 20g while a comet needs 100gs. also comets have more fat i think

guppies i think are anywhere from 3-5 dollars for a pair. they will pay for themselves many time also you dont have to worry about inbreeding as you will just be feeding them to ur oscar

I would suggest no plants in a feeder tank. You're going to be catching fish frequently so I would leave the tank without a substrate, and no plants...and only decorations that can be easily removed. Otherwise, there will be lots of swearing when it comes to catching a few every week.]:|

Yeah, if you breed 'em yourself you know that your oscar won't catch a disease!

a 10g would be perfect with a corner filter or a sponge filter.
