Biggest fish I ever lost lost, was a male betta from a covered 10 gallon...never did find his little body, not even in the freezer.

Tim, why would you want a 97lb fish .

9 inch Black Shark. Busted the hood while jumping out. Found it on the floor the next morning. Horrible loss of a beautiful fish and a perfectly good hood.

These two are from my LFS days...

I knew a customer who kept 3 6" Dempseys, 2 1' Oscars, and 2 14" plecos in a 55-gallon aquarium...they were in bad shape when I arrived on the scene, but I convinced hin to get a bigger tank...I helped set up the new 150-gallon (still too small IMO, but better), but the oscars had HITH so bad that they succumbed, as did one of the dempseys when the balance of power shifted after the oscars died.

Here's another...in the 150-gallon saltwater tank at the shop, we had a 16" leopard shark...also in the tank were several serpent and bristle stars. We closed up shop on Saturday night, and came in on Monday morning to find a shark skeleton virtually picked clean, with several especially corpulent starfish under the nearby rocks...

Hello everyone, first post here:

I have lost a few fish over the years but nothing really big. The one thing that really hit me hard was an invertabrate. It was gold mystery snail named Edgar. I had him for 2-1/2 years.

He used to climb all the way to the top on the side of the aquarium and freefall 1/3 of the way down my 20g Tall tank and then ride the filter current round and round for hours. All the while his skin would look like it was undulating as he would go arond. I always called it "snail surfing." He has been one of the most charasmatic animal I have had in an aquarium.

Also, is it proper to call a snail a fish or not?

Welcome to the fp family JediDragon ...I gotta say I love my malasyian trumpet snails, they hide most of the time but I still take it hard when one of them dies.

See I thought this was about fish that just up and dissapear. For fish I've lost as in they died on me, biggest would have to be the bala shark that came with the "liberated tank". Poor guy didnt' take the transport from the sellers house to our office very well. If I had been thinking properly I would have dropped him off @the LFS right then and there. I knew @the time that there was no way he'd go in a 20 Long....poor thing came down with a case of ich that he wasn't able to recover from. He was 5-6" max.

^_^

Just to clarify this:

Fallout is talking about a previous girlfriend, most likely.

I haven't really lost a very large fish, just a female betta and the usual neons.

probably 5 7" anglefish.

All of our big fish are old.

Well, the angles were too, but stupid freaking sword tails killed them.

I went away for a weekend and "lost" 12 neon tetras......as in no trace of them, the remaining five went over the course of a fortnight and frankly i blame the rainbow shark..

and Fallout you are very fun, i have had an awful day and you 5'2 97 pounds "fish" really made me laugh so thank you.

being washed up so I could determine cause of death. He was a perfectly healthy fish that ended up jumping the pond somehow. Probably hunting smaller fish and jumped not being in the frame of mind to realize the pond stopped there.

Catfish aren't quite the pond jumpers that carp species are.

not quite a fish, but I went away for the weekend once and returned to find my brothers bullforg missing. It wasn't in the tank, the room or the house.
Who knows

I lost a 4" blue gourami. We went away for a long weekend and when we got home we was gone. No trace of him at all in the tank, checked everywhere outside the tank...I have no idea what happened to that fish
