I was wondering about buying new fish, would it be really silly to buy them one at a time?


i would like to re build my danio school and maybe the silver tips, but when ever i buy fish i seem to lose them -well a few at least. the lfs always conviently say that losing fish is normal - some won't survive.

would it be over kill to do my WC on saturday morning and go buy the one fish in the afternoon? obviously i would test the water etc,

i am just tired of buying fish getting excited and then a few weeks later burying them.

The silly thing is buying a whole school of 6 at once and causing a mini cycle.. Was that what the LFS was advising you to do, (add a school at once, i mean)?

Your best bet is to introduce them in pairs or trios, usually 1 pair or so every week or two until your tank is stocked.

We should probably be looking at the reasons why your fish keep dying, though. What size is the tank? How many fish are in there? What types of fish have you been trying to add? What are the symptoms of the sick fish? You may be buying sick fish from your LFS, and obviously that is not something you want to do. you may need to change fish stores! Remember, there are a lot of water-borne illnesses present in the LFS water that you cannot see
