i have a 50gallon (uk) tall tank, 36x15x22

3 swordtails
3 guppies
2 honey gourami
5 corries
10 H. rasbora
1 pleco

i'm being over run by fry from the livebearers, i was wondering if i could fit in an angelfish or 2? i know they can get big, i will be getting a larger tank early next year, ok?????

and if only fit 1 are they ok on there own?

i've heard they like pairs, but then heard they can fight??

or is there anything else that would like the odd fry for dinner???????

As long as your filtration is adequate there's no reason a couple of medium-size Angels cannot make a home in the tank...

I say "medium size" because smaller Angels will not feast on fry. In fact, I have many large adult black Angels that will not eat small feeder guppies.

Something about their religion I think.

You could definately fit an angel in there. Angels, to some extent, are my specialty, kinda. Anyway, here is what FP would say about angels:

Some would say that you should only get 1 and getting two gives you a chance of getting a pair and they begin breeding, and breeding angels are not good for a community tank.

Some would say go ahead and get two, there isn't that much of a change of getting a pair and they would be fine together, so on and so forth.

Some would say you need to get angels in a group of at least 6, which would make your 50 UK gallon (60 US gallon) tank a little too small, especially since it already has some other fish in there.

I, personally, would be fine with getting two. And since you said you are getting another tank, then you could separate them.

OVERALL here is another question, how many plants do you have in your tank? I find it quite odd that you have so many fry. Usually they will be eaten by the parents, and if not, then other fish. Angels WILL eat fry, if they can get to them.

A "medium" Angel fish is one with a body size of a 50 cent piece...

Body size, not overall size.

i hope you enjoy your angelfish because i got two last visit to my LFS and i got them together so they can get to know each other and wont fight over territory.

but anyway mine have the cutest little personalities, following me around the room asking for food all the time 24/7. mine have been getting along fine and like to chase a little(.5inches)platy fry around but haven't tried eating him at all. mine are very pretty marble angelfish and have blushing marks on the gills.

oh and when you add fish you let the bag float for 10 minutes and then add some of your water to the bag then you let it sit for another 10 minutes then use a net to get the fish out and place into your tank. but do NOT dump the water from the LFS into the tank because it could have a parasite or some kind of flu bug in the water from the stores tank.

hope this helps you!!!

Isn't the angel likely to eat the harlequins?

harliquins aren't 'streamlined' like tetras so they won't get eaten.

how big and how quickly will my angel grow?

it has fry to eat most weeks and i feed them at least once a day with either flakes, dried bloodworm, daphnia and brine shrimp. i also add live food when lfs has some in.
