question, what kind of algea eating critter can I put in my asian tank. all plecos and ottos are from south america. I am not adverse to shails or shrimp but the snails I have in my other tank do not do a great job.

thanks in advance

What size tank do you have? Chinese Algae eaters do an awesome job with taking care of algae but they can be aggresive as they get older due to territorial issues. I would cross check any other fish you might have in your tank with the compatibility section of this site just to make sure before getting one...

BTW, Welcome to the site!

OK, I have a 20g long. I looked into the sae. I don't know about the potential size. as far as the comp list, I don't pay too much attention to it because it's based on water requirements and size. it says you can put two betas together. thats why it says that you should do further reasearch.

thank you for the input.

What are the other fish in the tank? This will help us determine stocking. I'd recommend snails and shrimp. SAEs and CAEs just get too big for a 20 gallon.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

this site does not have any profiles on crustatians. what shrimp come from the region? currently the 20 is home to only my RTBS. she is still small. eventually this tank will house a school of WCMM and some rasboras and barbs. like I said this is the planning stage. I am sure that the RTBS will have to go to a larger tank someday but by then I hope to move the whole scheme to a 75 long.

You do know that you HAVE to move a rtbs to at least a 55 gallon cause that that 20 is just way to small. But a 75 would be perfect for a rtbs a school of white clouds, rasboras, barbs, and 3-4 SAES

If you want three schools of fish, a RTBS, and some kind of algae eater, you definitly need a bigger tank. For a little while, you might be able to keep the RTBS and the WCMMs in the 20 gallon. But there definitly wouldn't be room for anything else in that tank.

I have decided to get the 75g tank and cycle it before I get the other fish. Thank you for all the info. I think I will go with the SAE.

You could probably put some chopsticks in there!

Hillstream Loaches !

Would fit in a 20g no problem, only get to a couple of inches. They are Asian and do ok on algae, but as they are so small you mayneed more then one.

Water shouldn't be too warm though, and a bit of current would be appreciated.

Amano Shrimp. At least they have a Japanese name but not sure if they are actually Asian. Latin name Something Japansomething forget the proper spelling. Anysway sure sound Asian. Tiny bio load could fit quite a few in a 20.
