hmm the other common name listed here on fishprofiles is "dwarf sucking catfish" but sometimes it seems like fish stores can get pretty inventive with what they decide to call their fish haha... the scientific name is Otocinclus affinis so maybe you could write that down and bring it to them and if they dont have anything with that name you could order them?

I'm sorry I'm not really answering your question, but since common names are so varied are you sure your pleco isn't a common pleco?

Reason being common plecos get very large(?24"?), and they are not big algea eaters

Here's some info + pictures about the "chocolate pleco" from planet catfish
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loricari/pterygop/80_f.php

Here are several good pictures of common plecos

Info about common pleco diet

With these you can hopefully identify your pleco

ok i went to the lfs and found the otos... they were called o-cats... i also talked to him about my chocolate pleco not doing much alge eating.. he said its because all their fancy plecos are wild caught and the majority of the fancy plecos just sit around and they prefer meat over alge..
