| best time to add fish | |
TKF Enterprises![]() Fingerling Posts: 23 Kudos: 13 Votes: 1 Registered: 28-Dec-2004 ![]() | I was wondering when is the best time to add fish. I do a water change every other Monday, but then my ph is pretty high. I add the ph down Mon, Tues, and if needed Wed. I was thinking it would probably be best to wait until like the Sat of that week to add fish. Is this the right way to go about it, or would new fish adapt accordingly? Thanks for any help, Don |

Your water quality should be best after that. If your pH is really high, maby you should acclimate your fish to reduce the chance of shock. |

If you need to ajust the ph you should do so "naturally" using crushed coral or such to raise it, driftwood to lower it. Most fish can handle a wide enough range of ph that slight differences won't matter too much. If the fish are coming from a much different ph, a longer acclimation process will help. All my acclimations are @least an hour long. As to when to add the fish, so long as they tank is fully cycled, and you stock slowly there should be little problem. ^_^ ![]() Current [link=Contest Rules]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Aquascaping/44382.html?200412022138" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] ![]() |
TKF Enterprises![]() Fingerling Posts: 23 Kudos: 13 Votes: 1 Registered: 28-Dec-2004 ![]() | Thanks guys. I will increase my acclimation time just to be on the safe side and just add a few at a time. I am kind of using this small 20 gallon tank as a test. I would really like to get a bigger tank, but wanted to start out small. Thanks again, Don |

Bigger tanks are easier to control the water quality in. The levels and temperature don't fluctuate (sp?) as much. Hence the reason I convinced my parents to let me get a 72. ![]() ![]() -Formerly known as the Ferretfish ![]() |
